Welcome

The Lower Mainland Whippet Association was formed in 1981, by a group of fanciers that has been together since 1976 including five of the original founders of lure coursing in Canada. Our area of operation is Vancouver, British Columbia and the surrounding Fraser Valley.

Our Club organizes and hosts several lure coursing trials throughout the year, a Whippet Specialty show and a Sighthound Field Trial Conformation Specialty. We pride ourselves in putting on some of the best organized, most efficient lure courses in the country. Our Specialty show is often the largest Whippet Specialty in Canada. We also hold regular practice sessions for anyone wishing to utilize our experience to train their sighthounds for lure coursing and racing.

The LMWA is very pro-active in promoting our breed to the community at mall displays, trade shows, the annual SPCA dog-walk, the Great Canadian Pet Fair and other events. Our members are extremely active and successful in showing, lure coursing, racing, obedience, fly-ball, and agility with our versatile breed.

In March, 2007, the whippet and lure coursing community suffered a huge loss in the passing of Bonnie Goebel, a founding member and driving force in LMWA and in the Canadian lure coursing scene. The future of the Club was in jeopardy but we are happy to say as of October 2007, LMWA is back on track and will once again be hosting lure courses and our famous Specialty Show. We welcome new members that would like to be involved in the organization and hosting of these events.
